The gale force winds driving the waves in this early December gale occasionally carried the billowing clouds of spray in along the pier, giving the South Haven pier light a thorough shower. With some of these waves, the lighthouse was completely obscured from view for a second or two. Click any of the images above to load the corresponding animated sequence. Once loaded, the sequence will cycle continuously in real time (4 frames/sec) until you click the back button. These are relatively large files so please give them time to load if you're on a dial-up connection. All of these animations were shot with a Nikon F5 in the shutter priority mode at either 1/640 or 1/800 of a sec with a Nikkor 300 mm f/4 AF-S and a Nikon 1.4X TC-14E AF-S teleconverter on Fuji Provia 100F professional slide film pushed 1 stop to iso 200.
