"Spiral Stairs"

The Statue of Liberty served as a lighthouse for nearly a century and was, for a time, under the jurisdiction of the US Lighthouse Service. These spiral stairs, now closed to the public, allow access to the interior of the Statue. The bands on the interior skin of the statue are the armature bands that hold the copper skin of the Statue in place.
