View of Cana Island photographed in June, 2002 from the road leading back to the lighthouse. The trees essentially define the size of Cana Island, except for the rocky beach which was considerably smaller in 2002 than in 2001 as the water levels in Lake Michigan were up from heavier winter snows and spring rains. In years when Lake Michigan is particularly high, the approach to the island from the left can be underwater, requiring visitors to wade through the cold lake water to get out to the island and the lighthouse.
